Cover shows a coloured transmission electron micrograph of a slice through a cell of the hormone-secreting islet of Langerhans in the mammalian pancreas. The dark red round shapes in pink spaces are membrane-bound secretory granules. Glauser and Schlegel’s review article in this May 2007 issue focussed on the emerging role of FOXO transcription factors in pancreatic β cells.
