THE METABOLIC REDUCTION OF 16{alpha}-HYDROXY-OESTRONE TO OESTRIOL IN MAN

J. B. BROWN and G. F. MARRIAN

16{alpha}-Hydroxyoestrone was administered by intramuscular injection in propylene glycol solution to a normal man and to a postmenopausal woman. In the two experiments 44 and 33% respectively of the administered substance was subsequently excreted in the urine as oestriol. No evidence indicative of the metabolic conversion of 16{alpha}-hydroxyoestrone to oestrone or oestradiol-17β was obtained.
